Perthes autographs commercially
In July I met once more with Google on previously unknown letters Perthes, which were offered for sale commercially. Thankfully I had Susan Koppel from Hamburg take a look at the two convolutions:
1) were the first convolute contain 5 letters came from the vicinity of Emkendorf Reventlow. They date from the years 1813-1826 and are to John Fri Schönborn and directed his widow Catherine Stolberg. Most interesting is the letter turned out to former roommate Schönborn, dated 01/18/1813. Herein expressly warns him Perthes to come to Hamburg, because "enlighten some" soon will. This formulation immediately before the "rebellion" against the French, is remarkable. The last letter dated 02.08.1826 to Catherine Stolberg shows the efforts Perthes' to the estate of his late friend. In fact, this is now in the Hamburg-Perthes discount.
2) The second convolute were found next to some smaller Documents (receipts, recommendations), a letter dated 06/01/1836 from Perthes to a Councilor in Göttingen, linked with the GGA - that is to Arnold Heeren . It is so far the only remaining original letter to the editor of the publisher of his "political history", which also offers a beautiful view of the division of tasks. Perthes reported here not only the status of the latest books, but from his meeting with the historian Roepell in Halle - in Perthes took him directly under the contract without consulting the editors.
May the convolutions in the right hands go!

lectures in Gotha and Jena
On 30 September 2008 will be made in the Hall of Mirrors Friedenstein in Gotha a short lecture on my book. More information can be found here (strange feeling after a few years not attending as an archive, but as an author to come here).
From 26 to 28 November 2008 in Jena, the conference " from author to audience - communication and ideas circulating in 1800 in comparison" instead. I am very pleased to report there on the launch of the "European political history" and look forward to the exchange with colleagues with great interest.

Perthes letters published archive JE v. Seidel Sulzbach-Rosenberg
In the summer of 2002 I found out that published archives of the "Seidel'schen bookstore" in Sulzbach-Rosenberg or documents from the time of the company founder, Johann Esaias von Seidel (1758-1827) are located. It was interesting to me than that this bookstore in the early 19th century represented one of the largest in Bavaria, and talked at times an intense relationship with Friedrich Perthes. A similar request from the former owner was answered positively in the remaining 27 letters of letter copy books Seidel Perthes had been recorded in the period 1822-1827.
The chronic shortage of time and the discovery of other documents which illuminated the cooperation between Perthes and Seidel, kept me on the trip from the Upper Palatinate. The more I looked forward, when in the spring of this year, Dr. Markus Lommer, his label home town nurse in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, in my case and reported the conversation thread tied again. As part of the exhibition for the 250th Birthday of the founder could be activated Perthes some quotes for the Festschrift. Finally, prompted Dr. Lommel digitizing the corresponding copy books (my thanks to him and Mr. Franz Meier is in the provincial library Amberg).
A first look at the images promoted interesting details to light - including circulation figures and costs - to produce the register for Graf zu Stolberg FL "History of the Religion of Christ", the Perthes in 1822 led to his trip to Bavaria had.
